Steve Martin to receive Lifetime Achievement award

steve_martinLegendary comedian Steve Martin will be the 43rd recipient of the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The Cheaper By the Dozen star will be receiving the film industry’s top honor on June 4, 2015, according to an announcement made by AFI chair Sir Howard Stringer. “Steve Martin is an American original,” said Stringer in the release. “From a wild and crazy stand-up comic to one who stands tall among the great figures in this American art form, he is a multi-layered creative force bound by neither convention nor caution… AFI is proud to present him with its 43rd Life Achievement Award.” The prestigious award has usually gone to actors known for working in dramatic films, but Martin will be one of the few comedians to win the coveted prize, joining the likes of Mel Brooks and last year’s recipient Jane Fonda, and is the first ever stand-up comic to win the award.

AFI has yet to announce who will be presenting the award, but considering last year’s presenters included Meryl Streep, Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro, the June ceremony is sure to be a star-studded event.
