Taylor Swift set to launch her own streaming service

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift in concert is done shaking off the endless fights she’s had with Spotify — she’s starting her own streaming service.

The 27-year-old pop star, who has squabbled with streaming services in the past about royalties, is taking matters into her own hands. TMZ reports the “Bad Blood” singer has filed documents to obtain rights to a website that would feature “non-downloadable multi-media content in the nature of audio recordings.” According to their story, she wishes to call the site “Swifties.”

It was three years ago when the Grammy Award winner duked it out with Spotify over royalties. She eventually pulled her catalog of music, and Spotify — as well as other streaming services — went into panic mode, fearing other musicians would act similarly.

In a July 2014 op-ed that ran in The Wall Street Journal, Taylor explained herself: “It’s my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album’s price point is. I hope they don’t underestimate themselves or undervalue their art.”

As far as “Swifties” goes, though, the site may not just be about streaming music.

Apparently, the docs Taylor filed suggest she aims to launch “a line of music products, including guitars, guitar picks, guitar straps and drumsticks.”

Additionally, she intends to organize “retreats, educational camps and self-guided online courses” as well.
