The Kings Speech gets 14 BAFTA nods

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the nominees for the BAFTA awards today. The King’s Speech leads the pack with 14 nods, while Black Swan received a total of 12 nominations. Colin Firth, who just won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of stammering King George VI in The King’s Speech, received a Best Leading Actor nod. If he wins, it will be his second BAFTA award in a row — he won last year for A Single Man. Hailee Steinfeld, 14, who was nominated as Best Leading Actress for her role in True Grit, is the youngest-ever nominee in that category. Despite receiving a great deal of critical acclaim, True Grit, which was completely ignored by the Golden Globes, received three BAFTA nods. Pete Postlewaite, who recently passed away from cancer, is nominated posthumously in the Best Supporting Actor category for The Town. The BAFTA awards will take place February 13 at the Royal Opera House in London. Here is the complete list of nominees:

   True Grit had better get some Oscar nominations. It was the best movie I saw last year.

   I hated Black Swan. The King’s Speech is really good, that’d be my choice.

   I really enjoyed The King’s Speech and True Grit, but not at all impressed with Black Swan. Don’t know how Black Swan even got listed among the nominees. But I do think it should be nominated for the Rotten Tomato award.
