Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax earned a whopping $70.7 million in its first weekend, which makes it the biggest box office debut of the year to date by a long shot -- beating out The Vow, which was the movie with the best 2012 debut so far, with $41.2 million. The 3D animated family film features the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron and Taylor Swift and scored high with Tribute.ca users at 4.4 out of 5 stars. Coming in second was the raunchy Project X, about high school misfits who throw an out-of-control party in order to gain popularity. According to estimates, it garnered $20.8 million. Last weekend's top film, Act of Valor, dropped to third place, taking in an additional $13.7 million. Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds remained in fourth place for the second weekend in a row, retaining 4 stars from Tribute viewers. Tyler Perry's Good Deeds dropped from second place to round out the top five in its second weekend, earning an extra $7 million. It ranked high with Tribute viewers, earning 4.6 stars.
