themazerunnerThere’s a new dystopian teen drama champion at the box office. The Maze Runner, based on the best-selling YA series by James Dashner, outran the competition in its opening weekend, bringing in $32.5 million. Tribute had an opportunity to chat with the cast, including Teen Wolf actor Dylan O’Brien, about some of the more dangerous scenes to shoot while they were promoting the film in Toronto. The Maze Runner is currently holding a 4.5 Tribute user rating.

Coming in second this weekend was the thriller A Walk Among the Tombstones (3.9 Tribute user rating), starring Liam Neeson as a private investigator trying to solve the murder of a drug dealer’s wife, earning just over $13 million in its opening weekend. In third was This is Where I Leave You, which had its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, marking its debut with over $11 million. The family-themed comedy, starring Jason Bateman and Tina Fey, is holding 4.4 stars in our Tribute user rating.

Rounding out the top five are last week’s previous top two contenders: No Good Deed (3.3 Tribute user rating) with just over $10 million in fourth place, and Dolphin Tale 2 (4.4 Tribute user rating) at $9 million. Meanwhile, the summer’s biggest blockbuster success, Guardians of the Galaxy (Tribute user rating 4.3), had its first weekend out of the top three, bringing in over $5 million to place it at number six. ~Kelly Townsend
