Paramount has decided to rename the upcoming Tom Cruise crime drama, previously known as One Shot, to Jack Reacher. Cruise plays the lead in this movie and the new title is the name of his character. This film is based on a series of novels by Lee Child and will focus on Reacher, an ex-service member attempting to solve a mystery involving a sniper accused of murdering five people. Some fans of the book series have expressed concern over Cruise’s casting because Reacher is described as being over six feet tall and blond — features Tom Cruise definitely does not have. The film will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie and also stars Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins and Rosamund Pike. The name of the movie is not the only change made by Paramount; the release date has also been moved from February 2013 to December 21, 2012. ~Stacy Raivich

Despite saying Tom Cruise’s height (or lack of it) wasn’t a concern when he was cast as Jack Reacher, the author now admits the actor wasn’t right for the role.

Tom Cruise stars in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, now on DVD. He’s joined by Cobie Smulders, who plays a military Major, and Danika Yarosh as an at-risk youth.

The action-packed first trailer for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back has taken the internet by storm with its release. Tom Cruise returns as the lead character in the sequel to 2012’s Jack Reacher.
Reacher isn’t an “ex-service member” as this article states, he is an ex-MP from the army where his size and strength were definite advantages.
I fear that Cruise will play him in the same vein as the Mission Impossible or Bourne movies.
Cruise is the wrong guy for the role, he is half the size and stature as Reacher is.
Huge mistake and Lee Child can’t do a thing about it. MOvie will be a flop/
Stephen, I think in this case “ex-service” refers to being an ex member in the service of the army…
Bad casting but Tom Cruise is profitable in action films, and that’s all Paramount really cares about. We can only hope they do a decent adaptation.
im on my 6th reacher novel currently. and as above, ive mentioned in a few sites about cruise being impossibly small for a character whose strength in the books comes a lot from his physical attributes. cruise is a great actor and can do an action flick easy, but its bad casting for a well loved book character.
It sounds great, sometimes characters change from the books to the movies and Tom is really making a comeback, he was terrific in the latest Mission: Impossible!
