Tom Hanks disappointed by lack of sex scenes

By Alexandra Heilbron on May 15, 2009 | 21 Comments

tomhanks_ayeletzurerTom Hanks, 52, admits he was disappointed when it was decided that the sex scenes that were to appear in his new movie Angels & Demons — and which occur in the book — were cut. The filmmakers decided to pack in more action rather than take the time to incorporate a romance between Tom’s character and the female lead, played by Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer, 39. Hanks told Parade magazine: “We really don’t have time to make out or go to bed when Cardinals are being killed on the hour. We tried to work it into the screenplay over and over again. We were like, ‘Isn’t there a bigger car with a bigger backseat?’ But we were stuck with an Alfa Romeo so we didn’t have an opportunity to grab some smooching on the way to the Pantheon or the Piazza Del Poppolo. It’s my loss, but I think it did make it easier for Ayelet.” Anyone else relieved they didn’t have to watch Hanks having sex in a car?

Man, did Charlize Theron ever boost his ego, eh? 😀

Kinda looks to me like Hanks is getting a little old looking to be playing parts in hot sex scenes. It just isn’t a role you look at him and visualize now.

It’s a good thing they cut it out. If they left it in, it would be as shocking as the sex scene in the Thomas Crown Affair (Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo), ack.

They had all the time in the world for a sex scene in Cast Away -Hanks stranded on a deserted island with Wilson. Don’t think anyone needed to see that either 🙂

Well, after seeing this movie I couldn’t imagine any kind of sex scene with the overall tone of it. You can give this film the Oscar for snappy ‘editing’ for that.

I wish they had no make out scene, but they should have at least shown vittoria and langdon’s love chemistry especially the part where robert leaves in the helicopter and vittoria thinks he will die, and then when he returns
    aww

angelsdemonsfan…you just told us part of the plot. thats pretty uncool considering SOME of us havent saw the movie yet. the thing that i dislike about movies based on books is when they cant even be bothered to keep IMPORTANT STORY LINE FACTS in the movie. i tried so hard not to allow myself to like twilight (which i completely failed at, just so you all know) and after i saw the movie i read the book. needless to say, i was very disappointed by the entire set up of the twilight movie. there were many many important parts that were left out, even the main relationship wasnt exactly as it was portrayed in the movie. it irritated me to the core. also, they added in parts that were not even IN the book ! how can they do that? i think if youre going to base a movie on the book, it should be basically the EXACT SAME as the book. as if you were reading it and those were the pictures that are in your head. at the very least, leave in the most important parts (character growth, relationship growth/change etc).

Sorry guys . . . nothing to do with topic at hand

    FYI

My daughter was pretty sick over the last week. Fever, lethargic, runs, serious cough (until she was either vomiting or gasping for air), aches and pains ….
As much as I hated to go, I took her to emerg (St. Josephs Hamilton) when she started to complain that she felt like she wasn’t getting enough air. We took our own n95 so we wouldn’t pick up anything there. Very weird situation, they asked about any out of country travel, but were not too concerned about the symptoms. Nor were they masked up, even though she was coughing like mad she unmasked to have her temperature taken. Anyway, diagnosed with a virus, probably just a flu, but gave her antibiotics and said to start them right away in case of a secondary infection. Also said to watch her for any blueness or difficulty breathing. She is in a musical and half the orchestra recently came back from New York, most of them sick but none were tested for anything. I dont know what department you are in, but is your institution doing any testing for h1n1? Or do you pretty much have to be in respiratory failure? Ive been sanitizing the house like mad and no one else is sick.

I read the book, it was awsome but haven’t seen the movie yet. I can’t imagine them having sex scenes. There is absolutelty no time for that in the book (or in real life…sigh) The Illumati were moving too fast, Robert Langdon did not have time to eat, shower or change, Yuck, not sexy. It’s just not a story that needs sex to sell.

Anyone else relieved they didnt have to watch Hanks having sex in a car?

In response to that comment.. which was rude by the way – I doubt Tom Hanks wants to see YOU having sex in a car either. Cut him some slack, author.

anon, so sorry your daughter is sick. i hope she gets better soon and that its nothing too serious!

  19. tributegirl • May 19, 2009 @ 8:14 PM

Sorry Gina, I haven’t been on, been working a lot, plus we just got a new kitten, and his first week wasn’t very good, he wasn’t thriving, but is doing much better now.

Those symptoms could be H1N1, or it could be any flu, it’s hard to say unless they actually tested her for it. We do a nasal swab for testing, but some places do a blood test. Do you know if they tested her? I think most places take between 2 & 5 days for results, so if they tested, how long has it been? Are her symptoms subsiding now? I have been exposed to it A LOT, esp about 2 or 3 weeks ago, using the mask and being careful with handwashing, and sanitizing after a patient has been through, I have not had one single symptom. We aren’t seeing as many now, but they are still trickling in. Most are great about wearing their masks & being careful not to infect others, but unfortunately we’ve come across some real @$$es who don’t care.

I understand them asking about recent travel, but if she is coughing, they should have been masked up as well. If the health care providers get sick, then people are in real trouble, we’ve been extremely careful. I’m also surprised they took an oral temperature, we take the temp in the ear.

Let me know how she is doing, and thanks for sharing this.

yeah, you’re probably right, Teri, Tom has expressed interest in seeing himself ONLY in said sex scene….sheesh

  21. Kim • May 21, 2009 @ 3:25 PM

Teri, if Tom Hanks is an average male, he would probably want to see anyone having sex in a car. And if you think that was rude, (I thought it was kinda funny) then check out Perez Hilton!! Now that guys knows from rude!
