Tonys don’t love Daniel Radcliffe

One of the biggest nights for Broadway stars is quickly approaching. The 65th annual Tony Awards nominations were released Monday, with a lineup that wasn’t as star-heavy as its season. Many big-name actors were snubbed from nominations, including Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, who is making his second appearance on Broadway, this time starring as J. Pierrepont Finch in the musical comedy How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. The show, however, and his co-star John Larroquette, were nominated. Other big-name snubs include Robin Williams in the drama Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Chris Rock in The Motherf—– in the Hat and Jim Belushi in Born Yesterday. Also overlooked was the drama The Championship Season, along with its entire cast, including stars Kiefer Sutherland and Chris Noth. Musical comedy The Book of Mormon, from South Park duo Matt Stone and Trey Parker, received a total of 14 nominations, in categories that include best musical, score, leading actors, choreography and more. The show is only one nomination shy of the record 15 that went to Mel Brooks’s 2001 hit The Producers. The Tony Awards will broadcast live on Sunday, June 12. ~Natasha Tsakiris

Well, the role he’s playing is fun, but not really Tony award worthy. Not to say he isn’t a terrific actor, because he’s great in Harry Potter and it’s brave of him to try musical theatre.

The role may be a bit fluffy, but it won Robert Morse a Tony for the original production and Matthew Broderick a Tony for the 1995 revival. But Radcliffe’s omission from the Best Actor in a Musical ballot isn’t the only major oversight. What about Aaron Tveit from Catch Me If You Can…
