Unknown thrills moviegoers at weekend box office

Liam Neeson’s new thriller, Unknown, debuted in the top spot at the North American box office over the weekend with an estimated take of $21.8 million (all figures U.S.) and a high rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars from Tribute users. The teen thriller I Am Number Four debuted in second place, earning $19.5 million and a Tribute user rating of 4.1 stars. Gnomeo & Juliet retained third place, taking in an additional $19.4 million and earning 3.6 stars from Tribute users. Last weekend’s top movie, Just Go With It, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston tumbled to fourth place, taking in $18.2 million (Tribute user rating 4 stars). The comedy Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son opened in fifth place with $17 million, getting 3.7 stars from Tribute users. Last weekend’s second place movie, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, dropped quickly out of the top five to sixth place in its second weekend at the box office.

    Those are pretty high numbers all around. There are several good movies out right now; unusual for so early in the year.
