While doing a tension-filled interview with British Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy to promote his new movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robert Downey Jr. became visibly annoyed when the interviewer suddenly began to ask about his past. At first, he laughed off Krishnan’s question about a quote he gave years earlier about having spent time in prison, and asked whether they were there to promote a movie, in an effort to get the interview back on track.
When Krishnan asked whether he could also ask questions about Robert and not just the movie, Robert answered with a warning glint in his eye, “You have as much time as anyone else will.”
Krishnan then said, “Well, let me ask you a few more questions then and you can answer them if you want to, and not if you want to,” while Robert looked to his left at someone off camera. Krishan added, “We’ve got three more minutes on our agreement,” while Robert glared at him, interrupting with, “Your foot’s jumping around a little, you’d better get to your next question.”
Instead of dropping it, Krishnan asked Robert, who was visibly getting more annoyed by the moment, about his past again, referring specifically to his past drug use, and asking if he felt he was free of “all of that.”
Robert finally interrupted him by shaking his head and asking, “I’m sorry, I really don’t… What are we doing?” Krishnan responded, “I’m just asking questions, that’s all.” To which Robert replied, “Right. Bye!” He then got up, and after apparently smacking the journalist on the shoulder, left. Watch the video below.

The Russo brothers have achieved a remarkable feat with Avengers: Endgame, having crafted one of the finest conclusions to a cinematic saga ever seen.
RDJ was right to leave. He was there to talk about his movie and not his past political views. He tried to get the interview back on track but this Krishnan just didn’t get it.
Wow, he looked like he wanted to punch the guy. He has a lot of restraint.
I don’t understand why so many “journalists” feel the need to bring up the past as if that’s ok to do. RDJ has lived it and doesn’t need to live it again just because some journo wants to get some extra piece of info.
Being an addict is never easy, recovering from addiction even harder and then to have that repeatedly thrown in ones face is just disgusting on the part of the person throwing it.
Good for you RDJ showing restraint and keeping it classy.
Way to go Robert!!!!! That interviewer had no right to disrespect you!!!!! That guy needs to be FIRED!!!
The journalist was way out of line. I think Downey showed great restraint.
Way to go RDJ! This journalist, if that’s what we want to call him, had no right to speak about his past. He knew this interview was about promoting Avengers 2, not speaking about RDJ’s past. Good on RDJ to show restraint & jus get up & leave.
That interviewer was so out of line. If I was RDJ, I would have walked out that interview after that “political views” question. He had NO right to bring up his past. Good for Robert for walking out of that interview!
Good for RDJ, I’m sure they didn’t agree to a Barbara Walters type conversation…why did the interviewer want to get into his past? That was awkward, he was there to answer questions about the MOVIE…what an idiot
I’m not normally a RDJ fan although I recognize that he has come a long way and is doing great and I have enjoyed his last few movies. It appears this silly entertainment interviewer is trying to do his best Barbara Walters impression, take advantage of a promo situation in an obvious attempt to advance his own career. He had no right to ambush RDJ and deviate from the interview’s purpose. Huge kudos to RDJ for handling it the way he did. The interviewer looks like a moron and RDJ deserves respect. Everyone has a past, they should be allowed to move past it, and yes, even celebrities. They are just people doing their jobs. Their personal lives are no ones business. Imagine if your past was out there and available for all too see and strangers were demanding you answer personal details while you were just trying to do your job.
He should have known better than to make Ironman angry. Joking aside lousy professionalism on Krishnan’s part. He should have had the personal stuff cleared yea or nay before the interview instead of blindsiding Robert. Plus any good interviewer reads body language and listens what their subject is saying to see if he’s on safe ground. Obviously Krisnan isn’t a good interviewer, didn’t care, or had his own agenda.
Good for you, RDjr.
What’s past is past…let it go.
I, for one, am happy for your becoming a consummate actor. Your previous work obviously proves that.
This jerk treated the interview as a joke; looked like he was out to dredge smut. He should be fired.
I’m glad RDJ walked out. The past is the past Krishnan. Let it go. Let it gooooooooo. Turn away and slam the door! (KUDOS to RDJ!)
A truly professional response to a unprofessional journalist.
That interviewer is clearly a tool. Why he would bring up something so old is just plain dumb. If he was curious about previous drug use and the past he should read interviews or watch interviews from 20 years ago. Stick with what you were supposed to be talking about, is what he should’ve done. That was neither the time nor the place. Robert Downey Junior has come along way. I think he is earned that. That interviewer is clearly a moron. He thought he was trying to be a far better interview with and he clearly is
Krishna figure hey I am a minority so what can RDJ do? If he gets too angry or goes postal on me I can call it anti Asian bigotry then here comes my dream of being the next babwa wawa…..RDJ did not bite and handled it the right way so fat boy Krishna looks like the only looser in this “confrontation”. I am now even a bigger fan of RDJ
I thought you handled that with a beautifully annoyed elegance. This is supposedly a professional interview, whoever you were looking at should have given the signal that the questions were not appropriate. Not that you need my two cents; but you were the usual wonderfully entertaining star that my family and I love to watch. Counting down to the opening of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Sincerely, a fan.
With only 3 minutes to go, it seems stupid to rehash something from the past. If he wanted something personal and not promotional, I’m sure there were more appropriate career questions that he could have asked. Very poor interviewer. And poor decision maker if he wants to do more celebrity interviews in future.
Wow! RDJ what a guy you are. That interviewer should be fired …. what a disrespectful boob of a jerk. So glad you stood up for yourself and you did it with such class and elegance. I always enjoy your performances and admire your talent and pure genius really!
Great Restraint RDj
Maybe the interviewer should be cautioned by his boss and then apologize to you or Fired
RDJ handled himself with alot of restraint, better than I would.
This interviewer is an unprofessional idiot and doesn’t deserve to interview anyone let alone Mr. Downey who is awesome, remarkably talented, and an inspiration to us all. Good for him for keeping his dignity and cool intact and leaving, and putting this fool in his place. I hope this guy stops drinking so much Red Bull and gets canned.
He was only in that chair for a minute but he would have been justified to get out in 30 seconds. The fat slob was amateurish and irritating and however put him on camera should be dumped along with him.
It would be different if it was an Oprah or Barbara Walters interview…where you know its going to be hard, personal questions… but it wasn’t – this was about promoting The Avengers. He’s trying to make a name for himself in “journalism” as “The Guy” who got RDJ to talk.. instead…. he’e the guy that will never talk to RDJ again. Butthead. Go Robert Downey Junior – your fans got your back. (and he didn’t slap his back.. he merely patted it… like..”your an idiot”.B-Bye)
P.S. – RDJ looks HOT when he’s all cranky like that. Rawr!
Wow! That guy is a MORON! And he cakls himself a journalist? What an idiot! Good for Robert for just getting up and not punching this a**hole. Love you RDJ! You, yes you Krishnan…go find some other job…you shoukd be fired, motherdick!!!
Guru-Murthy is a total jerk in this interview.Shame on him ,he should be fired.Robert seems to be a bit unwell looking,so I hope he’s looking after himself. This interview was a total Bust & a WASTE of Robert’s precious time.
The journalist should be fired, he was way out of line.
His questions had nothing to do about the movie he was promoting. Ridiculous!
RDJ good for you for walking out, that guy was an idiot.
Great interview!
An interviewer…more like a paparazzi schmuck trying to fling mud. Good on ya Iron Man for shutting the little twerp down! Sad to see that the BBC has sunk to the level of the National Enquirer.
That nit-morph interviewer is ruining his own career. No celebrity in their right mind will want to agree to be interviewed by him. Downey did the right thing by abruptly ending the conversation and he was classy about it.
By listening to the interviewer’s speech rhythm (actually stuttering) and the tone of his voice, you can hear the stress … he knew it was wrong to continue in this line of questioning but he did. Wonder what motivated him? Showed a total lack of respect. RDJ: I totally agree !
I hope every actor and publicist has this guy on the banned list. See how long his career will last when everyone avoids him.
I’m surprised that RDJ lasted as long as he did!!! That interviewer was very annoying – he was pissing me off 👎🏼👺😡
As most have now realized, Guru-Murthy has a history of pulling this kind of crap (the Tarantino interview.)
Very doubtful any A-list celebs will accept to sit down with him from now on.
