Zooey Deschanel: Pregnancy diets are a joke

Zooey Deschanel thinks it’s a ”total joke” she can’t have wine or four cups of coffee a day while pregnant.

The 35-year-old star, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Jacob Pechenik, is frustrated that she cannot eat and drink whatever she likes at the moment and is particularly missing having a glass of wine and a cube of tasty cheese.

She said: ”You can’t eat so many things when you’re pregnant! If I was vegan, I’d just be like … ohhh. You can’t have sushi. You can’t have cheese that tastes good. You can have a little bit [of coffee], but I would have, like, four cups a day. And now I can have a half cup, which is a joke! It’s a total joke! You can’t have alcohol. I miss that, I like wine.”

Despite being frustrated at her reduced food and drink options, the New Girl actress and Jacob are still managing to have some fun with her pregnancy.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, she added: ”We are gonna be surprised. It’s more fun. Make it into a game!”

Last month, Zooey admitted she was ”so excited” to be pregnant and couldn’t wait to meet her impending child. She said: ”I’m really excited. I’m so excited. I’m just so excited to meet my baby! We’re very excited.”
