Insidious sequel haunts weekend box office

Making its debut on Friday the 13th, horror flick Insidious: Chapter 2 had cash registers ringing at the weekend box office, earning $41.1 million and a Tribute rating of 4.7 stars. Crime caper The Family opened at $14.5 million with a Tribute rating of 3 stars. Last week’s top film, Riddick, was bumped to third place this weekend, bringing in $7 million and a Tribute rating of 4.1 stars. Lee Daniels’ The Butler took the fourth spot, earning $5.58 million and bumping the total gross earnings to $100 million.  The drama earned a Tribute rating of 3.8 stars. Raunchy comedy We’re the Millers rounded out the top five, garnering $5.4 million and a Tribute rating of 3.9 stars. Rounding out the top ten are Instructions Not Included, Planes, One Direction: This is Us, Elysium and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. ~ Marriska Fernandes
