We spoke with Richard Shim, who won our Daddy’s Home Trip to NYC to see the premiere of the movie, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, to find out what his experience was like.
The prize consisted of round-trip airfare to and from New York, two nights stay at a hotel, and transportation to and from the airport to the hotel and back. The total value of the trip was just over $3,500.
How surprised were you when you found out you won the trip? Who was the first person you told?
[RS] Very surprised. I’ve never won a trip. I was at work when I got the call. We tend to receive a lot of spam calls at work, so I was a little apprehensive at first but when the lady on the phone said she was from Tribute, I was certain it was legitimate. The first person I told was my wife.
How often do you enter Tribute contests? Was this the first time you won something?
[RS] I tend enter Tribute contests a few times a year, especially the ones for trips and gadgets. When I do see a contest I like at Tribute, I will enter it daily, if allowed. This was the first Tribute contest I’ve won, but look forward to more.
Can you describe briefly your schedule and share some activities or experiences you had?
[RS] The flights, transfers and hotel were all arranged for us. They even arranged for my brother to fly out of a different city and connect in Toronto so we could arrive in NYC together, which was very thoughtful and helpful.
The limo driver was waiting for us as we departed the terminal and got us quickly to the car and on our way.
The hotel was nice and its location was very close to Central Park and an easy walk to Columbus Circle for the subway.
We were able to tour a portion of Central Park, ChinaTown, the Wall Street area, World Trade Centre, Times Square, Macy’s, we saw the tree at Rockefeller Center, watched skating in Central Park, saw a great light show on the the outside of Sak’s Fifth Ave, spent a night at a pub in Hell’s Kitchen, had dinner at Katz’s Deli, walked for many, many kilometres and rode the subway, and of course attended the movie premiere.
We really had the freedom to do whatever we wanted during our time there, which we really appreciated.
What was it like attending the premiere?
[RS] The movie premiere was quite professionally run. We met the representatives from the entertainment company in the hotel lobby, along with other contest winners. As a group we walked to the venue, which was at the Lowes Theater not far from Julliard.
The weather was great, so we lined up outside of the theater by a side door. We met people from all over the U.S. who had also won trips to the premiere.
There was a lot of excitement in the crowd in anticipation of seeing the stars of the movie. Once we went inside the theatre, there was complimentary popcorn and drinks and we took our seat up on the balcony.
The movie was funny, in very typical Will Ferrell style.
Daddy’s Home opens in theatres on December 25, 2015. To enter our contests, including a $10,000 trip for four to the Caribbean, click here!

Wow, I wish I could win premiere tickets. I wonder if they are always in New York or LA?
Thanks for posting this– it sounds like a great experience! Nice to hear how it went.
