Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

Director Danny Boyle's adaptation of a Vikas Swarup novel titled Q & A swept the awards season in 2009, winning eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Slumdog Millionaire is about a Mumbai teen competing on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and scored the People's Choice Award at TIFF in 2008. Next to its critical acclaim, it also made stars out of its two lead actors, Dev Patel and Freida Pinto.
