carousel2If you’re wondering what to do on Canada Day and you live in the Greater Toronto area, you might want to check out The Pride of Canada Carousel, a one-of-a-kind rideable, urban folk art merry-go-round that will make its public debut in Markham for the July 1 Canada Day Celebration. Rides are free on Canada Day!

There will also be cotton candy, an air brush tattoo artist, mini Canadian flags, a balloon twister, face painting, live DJ music, costumed stilt characters and live music performances.

The carousel was created Canadian-born urban folk artist, Patrick Amiot, using repurposed material such as brooms, license plates, shovels, and irons, to name a few. Both adults and children can ride one of 44 sculpture characters, including a massive beaver, a bumblebee, a moose, a duck, a mermaid, an ice skate, a Canadian Mountie and more!

The modern merry-go-round, located 8080 Birchmount Road in Downtown Markham will also be open to the public after Canada Day.
