Return to Oz The Great and Powerful already in works

By Tribute on March 8, 2013 | 1 Comment

Oz: The Great and Powerful has just hit theaters and Disney is already planning a second installment. Variety reports that little is yet known about the sequel besides the screenwriter. Mitchell Kapner, who previously penned The Whole Nine Yards (2000) and co-wrote Oz: The Great and Powerful with David Lindsay-Abaire, will also write the script for the as-yet-unnamed film. No cast members have officially signed up but there’s a good possibility that Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz will reprise their roles since both have already expressed interest in returning to the world of Oz. Michelle Williams, on the other hand, has told E! that her involvement in the project depends on whether director Sam Raimi, who helmed the current film, will direct. The sequel has one other small hitch: due to copyright issues, Disney cannot include any of the ideas which were dreamed up for the original 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. That includes the ruby slippers, folks. ~ Cassie Jasinski
