Ride Along hijacks the weekend box office

Ride Along, starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, took the top spot at this weekend’s box office, earning $41.24 million, which is the highest January debut ever. This comedic film also earned a rating of 3.5 stars from Tribute readers. Knocked down to second place was Mark Wahlberg’s Lone Survivor. The film took in another $23.24 million and earned a Tribute rating of 4.3 stars. Opening at third place was the animated comedy The Nut Job. Starring Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser and Katherine Heigl, the film garnered $20.55 million and a Tribute rating of 3.3 stars. Also new to theaters is Chris Pine’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. This adaptation based on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan novels earned $17.2 million and a Tribute rating of 3.1 stars. Dropping to fifth place is Disney’s Golden Globe-winning film, Frozen. With nine weeks on the box office charts, this animated film brought in another $11.97 million bringing the total gross to a stunning $332.6 million. The film also earned a high Tribute rating of 4.32 stars.

Rounding out the top ten are American Hustle, Devil’s Due, August: Osage County, The Wolf of Wall Street and Saving Mr. Banks. ~ Brie Davis
