Rising star Brenton Thwaites nabs The Giver role

Australian actor Brenton Thwaites has earned a coveted role opposite Jeff Bridges in Philip Noyce’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 dystopian story, The Giver. The novel is set in a world where pain, emotion, human history and color have been removed from society. According to Deadline.com, the 24-year-old Maleficent actor will play the role of Jonas, who is selected by his heavily controlled community to become the next Receiver of Memory. Those granted with this title are given the responsibility of remembering the past. Jonas finds a bond with the previous title holder (played by Bridges) and learns of the disturbing reality of their lifestyle. According to a report by The Wrap, Thwaites beat out other actors such as The Kings of Summer‘s Nick Robinson, Mud‘s Tye Sheridan and Prisoner‘s Dylan Minnette for the role. Filming is scheduled to start in South Africa this fall. ~Alfonso Espina
