Roman Polanski release bid rejected

Roman Polanski has lost a bid to be released while awaiting extradition to the United States, because he’s considered a flight risk. The Oscar-winning director was arrested in Switzerland on September 26. He’s avoided U.S. authorities for over 30 years, since he pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old child. The victim, Samantha Geimer, filed a civil lawsuit in 1988, accusing the director of sexual assault, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and seduction. In 1993, Polanski agreed to pay Geimer $500,000 with interest, but two years later, had still not paid a cent. Geimer wrote a letter published in the Los Angeles Times in 2003, entitled “Judge the Movie, Not the Man,” stating she believed Polanski should be considered for an Oscar for The Pianist despite his fugitive status, saying, “I don’t really have any hard feelings toward him, or any sympathy, either.” However, she revealed the circumstances surrounding what happened — that Polanski told her mother he was going to take pictures of her for a French magazine. After he plied her with champagne and drugs, she wrote, “And then he took advantage of me….I said no, repeatedly, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer…It was scary and, looking back, very creepy.” Polanski went on to win the Oscar for Best Director.

Roman Polanski is one of the most imaginative and influential directors of the past 40 years…..this man deserves some respect.

what about the 13 year old girl? What kind of respect did he show her?

Dear Will ..what are you smoking ?!? He deserves respect? What the hell man? If you had a daughter, lets say 13 years old…and a man like twice her age got her drunk, druged her, and her still being able to know that what he was doing was wrong, and say no to anykind of sexual consent, and then him physically forcing himself onto her, would he deserve respect just because he was a film maker? He raped her! If someone murdered a family member, and then won a nobel prize, that person still woudln’t deserve respect…. Hes still a scum bag who deserves justice for his actions. The last thing he deserves repect. HE EVEN PLEADED GUITLY AND WASN’T MAN ENOUGH TO FACE HIS CONSEQUENCES, AND FLED THE COUNTRY. A lifetime of great things, doesn’t fix a horrible act such as this. And all hes done is make filmS to make a profit for himself ! I hope you get the point….Will

I am constantly surprised what stars are able to get away with. If that was MY 13 year old daughter he violated I would pull a Lorena Bobbit on him. She had the right idea I am thinking.

this man is a sick pervert, i dont care what accomplishments he has had in his life, they dont mean ANYTHING when you physically force a minor to have sex with you. also, who gives a child drugs and alcohol? clearly it didnt alter her decision, her state of mind or her ability to remember what happened. im not sure if ive saw any of his movies, and i dont plan to.

helen, i agree lorena had the right idea, but, if this was my 13 year old that he raped, i would have killed him.

I will echo what Scrappy Coco, mandee, and Helen said, and add another piece. What the hell are celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg doing organizing petitions in favor of this man? Yes, he has a list of well-known supporters, and as I read it I wonder about their mental statuses….
