It’s time to get out those ruby slippers and take a trip down the yellow brick road, because The Wizard of Oz is coming back to the big screen. The 1939 Oscar-winning Technicolor classic, which wowed audiences almost 75 years ago, will be restored for release in IMAX and 3D later this year, according to Warner Bros. and IMAX officials. Fans can soon see Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion come back to life, not just on a larger screen (an opportunity not many moviegoers can say they’ve had) but with digitally-enhanced sound and a remastered picture. President of IMAX Entertainment, Greg Foster, who has seen some of the remastered footage, told USA Today, “The sound was exceptional, the sharpness was exceptional…But it’s the color that stands out. What they could do is truly amazing, maybe what people felt when they first saw it.” ~Naomi Leanage
