Tom Cruise helps fallen man

By Alexandra Heilbron on October 6, 2008 | 18 Comments

tom_cruise_fall.jpgWhile walking down a Manhattan street last night with his wife, Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise stopped to pick up an old man who’d just fallen. The man was a member of the paparazzi who took a tumble while walking backwards as he tried to snap a picture of the famous couple. Cruise and another man helped the man to his feet, then Cruise picked up the man’s keys from the ground and handed them to him, making sure he was alright before heading on his way. Looks like Cruise practices what he preaches — he’s been quoted as saying: “Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident, it’s not like anyone else, it’s, you drive past, you know you have to do something about it. You know you are the only one who can really help. That’s what drives me.”

Well, Tommy, being a non-Scientologist, I would have faith many would have stopped to offer assistance, but good on you anyhow for helping.

What exactly is a scientologist anyhow?

In my limited understanding, it was a “religion” created by a science fiction author, Hubbard, now deceased and if you google it, maybe you explain it to me – it’s a big blur that seems to me as authentic as Hogwarts.

scientology is a socalled religion (but really a cult) that basically believes that all your problems that you have today is because of something you did wrong in another life time. so you have to find out what you did wron in your past life and come to terms with it and your present life will be better and you will be happy.
they believe other stuff but i forget.
but i do know they also believe that if you are a good person, (im not sure what they define as good) when judgement day comes, you will be made God over a planet, to be a God to that planet. which is why tom cruise is always teased about being an alien or something.
but the cult sucks and they totally brainwash ppl.

Helping someone has nothing to do with scientology believes, but with personality. Is that man who helped the fallen man a member as well?I guess no!

OmG, read that quote from Tom:

“Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident, its not like anyone else…” and this part:
“You know you are the only one who can really help.”

Man, are ALL Scientologists that obnoxious, or just Tom???

an article on how tom cruise helped a guy up after falling down. only in Hollywood would that count as news worthy. i think this whole thing of writing about the good deeds these celebrities do and making a big deal out of them is compensation (perhaps due to guilt) for all the things they have (you know, the millions, the estates, the power…)

i mean it’s nice and all but people help out others all the time.

  15. Nancy • October 9, 2008 @ 5:32 PM

Hahaha! Ooops….that should be “is”, sorry. But he does look like he crawled out of one, doesn’t he?

i think the reason behind them posting this as *news* is because everyone thinks tom is a psycho and freak because he has a different belief than everyone else. basically i dont think his religion should be anyones concern but his and his wife and kids. i can see why everyone would make a big deal out of it, the same way Christians make it a big deal to those that are also a different religion. basically i dont really think it matters to god what religion you are, or what you choose to believe in, or how you choose to live your life (except for those pedos, rapists and murderers) and i dont see why anyone feels the need to judge anyone based solely on their choice of life. anyways, back to my point, i think the main reason is they wanted to prove that even tho so many of you disagree with toms lifestyle, he is still after all a decent man willing to help someone in need. im sure that even some of you catholic people sometimes pass up that opportunity?

Well, I don’t care what religion ANYONE is as long as it is a good, honest religion…not a religion that has guards guarding the property to keep other people out, not a religion that takes everything from the poor instead of helping the poor and definately NOT a religion whose members bully the general public into doing things they don’t want to do. That is a CULT, not a religious group. They are not doing Gods work, they are doing what they think is best for their cult…and they obviously think that wealth and power and being able to control everything and everyone is what is best. I do agree with you mandee that it should only be his, his wife and family’s business…..and that is where HE, himself, should have kept it instead of trying to control people like his ex, Nicole or like Brooke Shields. HE started making public statements about it…and now HE is being judged.
