Tribute's Bonnie Laufer talks to Frankie Muniz about his hot new spy film, Agent Cody Banks.

B.L. It looked like you had a blast making this movie.
F.M. That's an understatement! I had the best time of my life.

B.L. When the script was first given to you, what was it that made you think "I have really got to play this guy?"
F.M. I read the script about three years ago for the first time because we were supposed to do it long before we did. But I'm glad we waited because it turned out much better. I remember opening up the script and reading through it and I couldn't stop. Normally when I get a script it takes a week. You start one day and put it down. But I read this one straight through and I couldn't wait to start as soon as I read it. I was ready to start training and I was ready to start driving so it was awesome to get to do the movie, it was just great.

B.L. You must be a big fan of James Bond films, how much did that influence you?
F.M. Of course every teenager would love to be James Bond or get to be a James Bond type character and I got to do it. It's kind of weird that it's Agent Cody Banks and it's me, that's who I play. Everyone is going to see me as this cool CIA agent and it's awesome. I actually saw The Bourne Identity after I filmed the movie and did all of the fighting sequences and being so amazed thinking that's what I'm going to look like. I'm going to be like Matt Damon when he beats up all of those security guards. It's so awesome!

B.L. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised to know that you did a lot of your own stunts and fight work in this movie. So spill the beans, how much was you?
F.M. None of the snowboarding, half of the skateboarding and all of the fighting was me. I wanted to do as many stunts as possible because I hate when they have a close up of an actor fake fighting and then they cut to a far shot to see a stunt guy doing the moves. In this movie there is always a medium shot where you can see it's me and you can see the fighting and everything too. I tried to do as much as possible. I hated it when they wanted to use a stunt double I wanted them to use me. It was fun, jumping off buildings is fun.

B.L. What was your favorite gadget in the film?
F.M. My favorite gadget? Truthfully, the BMW skateboard. You can actually buy that skateboard, but mine was a bit jazzed up for the film with special wheels that were used in the air duct and it had these cool lights. It was a cool cruising skateboard to have.

B.L You have some nice chemistry going on with Hilary Duff in the movie. You actually did an episode of her show Lizzie McGuire so you knew her from before. How much fun did you have working with her on this film?
F.M. We have always been friends and so she asked me to do an episode of her show and I did that. Then I found out that she was going to do the movie so it was really cool. It's cool to work with someone that you know. I didn't have to be like Cody when I first met her. I already knew her and we were comfortable together so it was fine.

B.L. You have achieved so much success at such a young age, from starring in films to the amazing success of your hit TV series, Malcolm in The Middle. Who keeps you grounded and how do you stay normal?
F.M. I just am normal. I know that I am no bigger or better than anyone else and I just love doing what I do and I have fun doing it. I still go to movies and hang out with my friends when I can, but I get to travel all around the world and do a lot of fun stuff that being "famous" lets me do. I'm really enjoying it.

B.L. How hard is it to find a balance in your life? One minute you try to be like every other teenager and the next you might have kids stopping you the street asking for your autograph. How do you handle it?
F.M. I enjoy when people ask for my autograph or ask for a picture because then I know that people are enjoying what I am doing. It's cool to see that people appreciate what I do. So I don't mind at all. I have to admit that it is weird sometimes and some days it can get kind of crazy like when I am with my friends or something, but I don't mind. I don't know if my friends mind, but I'm fine with it.

B.L. Who do you admire most as an actor or actress?
F.M. Mmmmm... I have no clue! That's the hardest question I have ever been asked. I enjoy... Do you know who Shia LaBeouf is? He's on Even Stevens and I think that he is the best actor and he's about my age. He's very loose and comfortable when he acts. I really think his work is very cool.

B.L. What differences do you find working on a movie and working on a show like Malcolm in the Middle?
F.M. We kind of film Malcolm like a movie because we don't film in front of a live audience. We have four cameras and we film all day but the difference may be the pace that we film in. On the show we have six days to film a half hour where on a movie we have three months to film an hour and half. So you have a lot more time, it's more relaxed.

B.L. If you had to make a choice between making movies and doing TV what would you like to do?
F.M. I would choose doing movies because I enjoy being able to start a movie and then finish it and be a different character. I like playing different people and working with different people.

B.L. Big things are happening on Malcolm in the Middle. Jane Kaczmarek who plays your mom is having another baby. That will be the fifth child on the show, do you have any idea what it's going to be?
F.M. I don't even know what it's going to be yet! We are actually shooting the episode where she has the baby this week and next week. They say the name but they don't say if it's a boy or a girl, it could be either by the name that they chose. I think it would be cool if it was a girl and I think everyone is expecting a girl so we'll just have to wait and see.

B.L.You also had a chance to do a voice on The Simpsons, which I know you are big fan of. How cool was that?
F.M. The Simpsons is amazing and they just had their 300th episode, which I think is awesome. I think that everyone is a fan of The Simpsons, who can't like a show that's been on the air for 14 years?

B.L. I think this is going to be a huge hit, are you open to a sequel?
F.M. I'm ready to start tomorrow. I can't wait to see what happens if we get to do a sequel, but I would love to!
