| B.L. This
character that you play is definitely a rap-star wannabe taken from
your show The Jamie Kennedy Experience. Do you predate Eminem or
does he predate you?
J.K. I did the character before I ever heard of Eminem and I did
it in the early '90s. He's a white kid who really wants
to be from the hood.
B.L. So maybe Eminem is really
imitating you?
J.K. Nah, he's not imitating me. Eminem is a real rapper and
Brad is a wannabe. Eminem has lived in a real ghetto and Brad lives
in Malibu, it just happens that Eminem is white.
B.L. Do you get other comparisons?
J.K. I get called everything from Vanilla Ice to an Eminem wannabe
to Burt Bacharach's retarded son.
B.L. You've made the
leap from television to film. Do you have a preference? They say
having a half-hour sitcom is the best job you can have in entertainment.
J.K. It is, but I'm not on one! My show is so different, we
shoot all of our bits in the field and I have to play a different
character in each bit and it's the greatest, creative, rewarding
thing I can do. But it's hard, because we are going from location
to location with different makeup. I have done a half-hour sitcom
and they are easy and it's good money.
B.L. How do you feel about
making movies?
J.K. It's not a hard job. Look, I used to work at Domino's
Pizza so it's a lot better than doing that! Film is fun and
controlled, there really is no difference other than the medium
in which they are shown. TV is a little quicker and you get a little
bit more time to hone your craft, but they are both a lot of fun.
Oh, in film you can curse, in TV you can't.
B.L. You get to do a lot
of improv too on your television show.
J.K. I get to improv a lot but we got to improv a lot in the film
too. There are a lot of things that we changed and added and took
away.
B.L. What did you come up
with at the spur of the moment for the film?
J.K. Some of my raps on stage were totally improv'd...
there's a scene with a knife coming at me. That whole scene
was improv'd. Taye and Anthony's dialogue in the car
was supposed to stop after I said my lines but they kept going,
so that was all improv'd. They came up with a lot of stuff
that was improvised.
B.L. How do you rate yourself
as a rapper?
J.K. I'd say I'm about a two on a scale of 1 to 20!
B.L. Do you see any more
feature films coming up from any of your other characters that you
do on your show?
J.K. I'd like to do different films about each character;
it would be a lot of fun. We'll have to see how Malibu's
Most Wanted does, but I'd love that.
