ALYSON HANNIGAN
Date of Birth: March 24, 1974
Known to Buffy the Vampire Slayer viewers as Willow Rosenberg, Alyson Hannigan has won over
millions of fans with her goofy personality. But unlike Buffy's leading lady, Sarah Michelle
Gellar, who has quickly made the transition from television star to young leading lady,
Hannigan is sinking her teeth into juicy supporting roles.
Born in Washington D.C., Hannigan first appeared on screen as Dan Aykroyd's daughter in
My Stepmother is an Alien, a film that also co-starred Kim Basinger. While the film pretty
much faded from sight following its brief run in theaters, Hannigan bounced around on
television for nearly a decade before landing her starmaking role on Buffy the Vampire
Slayer.
Buffy was a surprise hit on the WB network in 1997, and it has not only spawned one spin-off,
but it has helped launch the movie careers of several of its stars. For Hannigan, that
included appeared opposite Tom Everett Scott in Dead Man on Campus. This film, about
a college student who tries to kill his roommate for comic effect, predictably came and went
in theaters with little notice from audiences.
But Hannigan's luck on screen is changing. After co-starring in a scene-stealing turn
as a high school band geek in the successful teen sex romp American Pie, Hannigan has
finally found the film that could make her a star. Receiving tremendously positive audience
response when it hit theaters in the summer of 1999, American Pie became of the biggest box office hits of the year. Its cast of unknowns was thrown into the spotlight and their careers began to skyrocket.
Since then, Hannigan has appeared in several more films including Boys and Girls, Beyond the City Limits and two American Pie sequels. Following Buffy's cancellation in 2003, she has had more time to pursue a career in motion pictures.
