Dan Fogler Biography

DAN FOGLER

Date of Birth: October 20, 1976

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Dan Fogler's life changed drastically after winning a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway show The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee.

Two years earlier, he'd been doing small time theater and low budget films when a longtime friend, Rebecca Feldman, called him up and asked him to participate in creating a show with her improv group. He was asked to create a character for a show about a spelling bee. Fogler came up with William Barfee, a slobby preteen with a "rare mucous-membrane disorder." They called the show C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E, and workshopped and developed it at the Barrington Stage Company in Massachusetts in 2004, before it opened on Broadway in April 2005 under the new name The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

After winning not only a Tony, but The Lortel, Outer Critics, Broadway World and Drama Desk awards, Fogel found himself very much in demand. His first role in a major motion picture was in School for Scoundrels (2006), starring Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Heder. Next, he played a lead role in Fanboys (2008) opposite Seth Rogen and Kristen Bell before landing the starring role in Balls of Fury (2007), a comedy about a ping-pong champion.

Since then, he's played roles in Good Luck Chuck (2007) with Jessica Alba and Dane Cook; Kids in America opposite Anna Faris and he also provides the voice of Yummo for the animated film Horton Hears a Who (2008). In Number 13 (2008), he plays famed film director Alfred Hitchcock opposite Ben Kingley and Ewan McGregor.

Fogler directed his play Elephant in The Room, which was accepted into The 2007 NY International Fringe Festival. He also plays in the rock band 2nd Rate.
