Dennie Gordon Biography

DENNIE GORDON

Born and raised in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, Gordon attended the Yale School of Drama. After graduation, she went on to spend the next seven years in television, directing everything from Party of Five, Chicago Hope and Nash Bridges, to The Practice, Ally McBeal, Dawson's Creek and Jack & Jill.

In 2000, she won the prestigious Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Musical/Variety program, for her work on an episode of Tracey Takes On.

Gordon decided to take the leap from the small screen into feature film work early in the new millennium, and in 2001, Gordon's comedy Joe Dirt (2001) was released. After a detour back to television for the TV movie Beat Cops (2001) and the TV series Glory Days, Gordon returned to the big screen with the heartwarming teen flick What a Girl Wants (2003), starring Amanda Bynes and Colin Firth. The film was well received at the box office, and Gordon's next project was the teen comedy New York Minute (2004), starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
