MICHAEL J. MASSIMINO Dr. Michael J. Massimino was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in May 1996. Massimino is a veteran of two spaceflights, STS- 109 in 2002 and STS-125. He has logged a total 571 hours and 47 minutes in space, including more than 30 hours in four spacewalks.
