Garry Shandling Biography

GARRY SHANDLING

Date of Birth: November 29, 1949

This Chicago, Illinois native comedian started out as a comedy writer for other situation comedies and as a stand-up comedian. He landed his first television show, It's Garry Shandling's Show in 1985.

Shandling, however, made his biggest impression with work on The Larry Sanders Show (1993-98), a show about the trials, tribulations and double-dealing that goes on behind the scenes of a late-night talk show. For his work on the show, he shared a BAFTA TV Award for Best International Series with Dennis Klein. He also won five CableAce awards as producer and an Emmy for his writing.

In addition to performing live and on television, Shandling has also played character roles in feature films such as The Night We Never Met (1993), Mixed Nuts (1994) and Hurlyburly (1998).
