Jason O'Mara biography
Date of Birth: August 6, 1972
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Jason O'Mara developed a love for acting when he was cast in a school play. He moved to London, England after graduating from Trinity College Dublin with a BA in Drama and Theatre. He began his professional acting career on the stage, in productions such as Popcorn at the Apollo Theatre, The Jew of Malta at the Almeida Theatre and The School for Scandal with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He also appeared in the award-winning production of Harold Pinter's The Homecoming with Ian Holm and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2002 Irish Theatre Awards for his performance in Bash, written and directed by Neil LaBute.
On British television, Jason played regular roles in Peak Practice, Berkely Square, The Bill, the BAFTA-winning Playing the Field, Berkeley Square, Monarch of the Glen and High Stakes before making his U.S. television debut in 2001 as Lt. Thomas Meehan in the critically-acclaimed HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. Jason then moved to the States, where he landed a starring role as a regular on the CBS espionage series The Agency. Also playing a starring role in the series was an American actress named Paige Turco. The two hit it off and began dating, and two years later were married. Jason continued to establish himself by playing recurring roles on hit TV shows such as Men in Trees and The Closer before finding a regular starring role as Charles Conti opposite Kyle MacLachlan in the crime drama series In Justice.
Jason made his motion picture debut in 2007 opposite Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil: Extinction. Returning to television in 2008, he played time-traveling detective Sam Tyler in the ABC adaptation of the British drama series Life on Mars, although the show lasted only one season. Other television credits include guest appearances on Grey's Anatomy and Trust Me.
Returning to the London stage in 2010, O'Mara starred in Serenading Louie at the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden.
Jason currently stars in Fox's science fiction drama series Terra Nova as the show's patriarch, Jim Shannon. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the series debuted September 26, 2011. In 2012, he made his romantic comedy lead debut opposite Katherine Heigl in One for the Money.
Jason and Paige have one son, David. They divide their time between New York and Los Angeles and make frequent trips to Ireland.
