Jonah Hill Biography

JONAH HILL

Date of Birth: December 20, 1983

Born Jonah Feldstein in Los Angeles, Jonah Hill moved to New York City after graduating from high school to study writing at New School University. As a youngster, he'd been inspired while watching Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons and Larry Sanders, and hoped to become a comedy writer one day.

While in New York, he frequented a bar called Black and White, where he did much of his writing. One day he met Dustin Hoffman's children, Jake and Becky, who were impressed by Hill's talent for comedy. They introduced him to their father, who arranged an audition for the motion picture I Heart Huckabees (2004). Hill landed the role, and went on to play a small part as an eBay customer in The 40 Year-Old Virgin (2005). Arriving on the set, he was told that nothing had been written for him, but he was to inprovise a scene with Catherine Keener. The bit was memorable, and Hill graduated to larger roles in films such as Click (2006) starring Adam Sandler and Accepted (2006) starring Justin Long.

Hill landed his first starring role in Superbad (2007), a raunchy teen comedy about two inept high school seniors who plan to lose their virginity before moving on to college. He has since played roles in major motion pictures such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008), Funny People (2009) and Get Him to the Greek (2010). In 2012, Jonah received his first Academy Award nomination for Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Moneyball.

Despite his success as a performer, Hill hasn't forgotten his dream to become a comedy writer. He co-wrote the script for a movie remake of the TV series 21 Jump Street, about young policemen and women who go undercover as teens, as well as playing the role of Schmidt in it. Following the success of 21 Jump Street, Hill appeared alongside Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn in the comedy The Watch (2012) about a group of dads who form a neighborhood watch group. He's already got a string of films lined up for release in 2013 and 2014.
