Julian Jarrold Biography

JULIAN JARROLD

After over 10 years as a successful television director in the UK, Julian Jarrold made his feature film directorial debut with Kinky Boots (2006).

He began his career with series television such as Dramarama, Children’s Ward and Cracker, eventually moving on to TV movies such as Some Kind of Life (1995), which received a BAFTA TV nomination. He also directed All the King’s Men starring Maggie Smith and the miniseries Great Expectations (both 1999) starring Charlotte Rampling.

For his work on Never Never (2000), he received another BAFTA TV nomination, then won Best Fiction Program at the Cologne Conference for the four part miniseries White Teeth (2002).

Jarrold received a British Independent Film Award nomination for his direction of Kinky Boots (2005), about a man who inherits his father’s shoe factory and tries to save the business by making kinky boots for transvestites.

His next project is a biographical portrait of Jane Austen entitled Becoming Jane, starring Anne Hathaway in the title role.
