Simon Griffiths biography

Simon Griffiths

Born in Birmingham, England, Simon Griffiths grew up in Abergavenny in South Wales, where his family still lives.

Simon initially trained as a registered nurse and until his late thirties hadn’t really considered a career in the dramatic arts. While living in Bournemouth on the south coast of England, he began taking acting classes with Mark Osmond at the Stagewise Theatre School, as well as with Mark's wife, American actress Sandra Dickinson, who now lives in Britain.

Simon then discovered Shakespeare and spent a happy couple of seasons performing with Brownsea Open Air Theatre on the beautiful Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour. Here he worked with Lisa Dillon, who played Titania to his Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Lisa went on to RADA and since graduating has wowed audiences on stage, TV and the big screen ever since. Lisa encouraged Simon to go for it as a professional actor, for which he will always be grateful.

Simon moved to Manchester, where he signed with Laine Management and started landing various TV commercials, as well as being cst in small roles on TV dramas such as Heartbeat.

Playing the role of "Mike" in the feature film 25Gs with Honlodge Productions led to Simon being cast as "Governor Bentley" opposite Martin Freeman in the short film The Voorman Problem. Little did Simon dream that a film with a cast of four that was shot in only three days would be nominated for a BAFTA in 2013 and an Oscar for Best Live Short in 2014.

Simon lives in Abergavenny, having recently moved back to enjoy the rural peace and quiet.
