Stephen Norrington Biography

STEPHEN NORRINGTON

Date of Birth: 1964

Born in London, England, Stephen Norrington began his career in the mid-1980s working on animatronics and designing mechanical characters for the films Return to Oz (1985), Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) and Alien (1986). He has also worked on makeup for the films The Witches (1990) and Waxwork II: Lost in Time (1992) before making his feature film directorial debut with Death Machine (1995), which he also wrote and produced. The film won Best Special Effects at the Fantafestival.

Norrington’s next film was Blade (1998), starring Wesley Snipes as a half-man, half-vampire. The gory action film was a box office hit and won several awards. He followed that up with The Last Minute (2001), directing and producing his own script. For his efforts, he won the Directors' Week Special Jury Award at the 2003 Fantafestival.

He next took on the big budget feature The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) starring Sean Connery. When Danny Boyle, the director of Tick Tock starring Jennifer Lopez dropped out, Norrington stepped in as director of the project.
