STEVE CARR
After attending Manhattan's School of Visual Arts on a full scholarship and
training as a painter, Carr started his career as an album cover designer
for Def Jam Records. His work was noticed by the co-founder of the company,
and Carr soon found himself directing music videos.
For nearly a decade, Carr worked with such bands as Def Squad, Moby, Method Man, Public Enemy and Timberland, winning an MTV Music Video Award for
Jay-Z's Can I Get A. Carr's work was noticed by hip-hop musician turned
actor, Ice Cube, who was looking for a director to take the reins of the
sequel to his hit film Friday. And voila! Carr made Next Friday (2000), his
feature directorial debut, which, although it didn't impress the critics,
had a strong showing at the box office.
Carr worked on another sequel to a successful film, Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001) starring Eddie Murphy, then directed Murphy again in the original comedy, Daddy Day Care (2003) and took over for the sequel Are We Done Yet? (2007), starring Ice Cube. Most recently he directed Kevin James in the comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009).
