PETER and
BOBBY FARRELLY
Date of Birth: 1956 and 1958
The Farrelly brothers, Bobby and younger brother Peter, hail from Rhode
Island. The two graduated from Providence College in Providence
and started their careers as writers in the 1980s. They scored their first
credit with two episodes of the award-winning series Seinfeld. This
led to a deal to make their first feature, Dumb and Dumber, starring
Jim Carrey. The film was a commercial hit, making over $340 million
worldwide, and opened the Hollywood door for the brothers.
With the success of their first film, the brothers formed Conundrum
Entertainment, which has developed and produced a number of projects,
including Kingpin, Outside Providence, Me, Myself and
Irene, and Say it Isn't So.
In 1999, the two received awards from PGA Golden Laurel Awards and ShoWest
for their work on There's Something About Mary. Into the new
millennium, the two have completed a number of new projects, including the
animated comedy Osmosis Jones and Shallow Hal. In 2003 they were nominated for a Daytime Emmy for their work as executive producers on the animated program Ozzy & Drix. Their most recent project is the film The Three Stooges (2012), a remake of the popular slapstick comedy series that first aired in 1925.
Both brothers are married, and Bobby has two children. Their sister, Cynthia Farrelly Gesner is an attorney who appeared in their film Kingpin (1996). Her husband, Zen Gesner, is an actor who got his start in the Farrelly brothers' Dumb & Dumber (1994).
