A very good movie. So glad the movie takes place in South Africa and not freakin' USA. Interesting concept and well executed. Ceratin scenes are quite graphic in their violence, so you better have a strong stomach.
I rarely watch the same movie twice, but i want to watch this one two more times
I am clearly in the minority, and also left after 40 minutes so I didn't see it all. I found it horrifying. Maybe I have read too much about World War II and history in general and this very in-your-face. Also I guess the level of violence and horror where too much for me. So, a word of caution for those who get social parallels all to clearly and those who have a hard time with violence, this may not be your movie. Whether it was a good or even great movie or not, I could not say.
Great movie! Must see! CG,story, the way it was shot. Well put together.
Stand out movie that you never saw coming.
The visuals were amazing - but the story line was lacking. Story had serious potential but in the end was sadly predictable.
one of the best movies Ive seen in a long time
Great movie. Can't wait for the sequel.
I thought this movie was great.I like how it was filmed partly documentary style and was acted out as if it were a true story. The plot/story line was smart and I thought the aliens and action sequences looked very realistic.
slow start, but i got into the end of the film. Awesome effects and fighting scenes! Worth seeing.
solid movie
amazing the prawns looked real
It was alright,
Fantasic. Anyone that likes a great story; with action, twists and turns will totally love this movie. Makes you think during and after the movie. Powerful. Great si-fi, action, drama and a thriller all in one. Not predictable.
I truly enjoyer this movie and the way it was shot. The special effects were amazing.
I too was one of the people who wasn't interested in this movie at all, but I go to the movies almost every weekend and thought I'd give it a chance seeing that there's nothing else worth-while out there. But as soon as the film started, I was intrigued. It looks like a documentary and I even forgot that the aliens were computerized. Then I slowly realized how I was holding on to every moment. I'd recommend this movie to anyone - it's worth the watch. I loved it and I'm so glad I had a great movie to watch this weekend.
I'd Have to say, District 9 is the most compelling sci fi movie i've ever watched, i dont think there is another film where u feel so much for another species and the understanding of what they musy be going through, way to go again Peter Jackson
There is nothing unique about this movie, the infection thing has been done to death. The movie would have done better as a mini series to allow for more character development, which was non-existent. I have to admit the special effects were first rate, but the movie as a whole is a failure.
It was quite a disturbingly good movie. Disturbing because of the gory scenes and how explicit the alien experiments were shown. It really drew a connection with the real world; first thing it made me think of was the holocaus. It brought out messages that many movies don't. Such as how human curiosity, paranoia, or fear can turn even the "best people" into monsters. It made me feel how stepping in another person's shoe and maybe living a day in their lives can change our point of views. Overall it was definitely worth watch and really a great movie.
Amazing!!! Best movie of the year so far.
Best movie I've seen in about 10 years. Psychologically, a very engaging movie with a microscope into human behavior and the wickedness we're capable of. Not a boring, shoot em up movie, but a riveting, stirring piece that keeps you glued to your seat. Excellent.
A very well made movie. I really cared about the characters. The subject matter was a little disturbing however...
better to watch the trailer and imagine how good the movie could have been than to go see it and find out how good it wasn't.
its worth seeing
The special effects are really well done. It is a really original smart story and idea. The only negative comment I have is the documentary style of camera work made me really nauseous.
awesome movie; really enjoyed it' it was gory but fun
good movie, made to be realistic and believable, why did the ship not take back some aliens the first time around?. I guess there will be a sequel district 10 !
good movie. i din't think i would really like it but someone dragged me to it and now i'm recommending it to everyone
peter jackson has out done himself, this is a must see movie. the whole concept and special effects is really cool. man i can't get over how good it was. 5 stars!!
Very interesting show. Truly unique. Lot's going on so try to not sit too close up. You won't want to miss anything. Definitely worth checking out, even if you're not a sci-fi freak.
left after 20 minutes and got a refund, couldn't tell ya if the movie got any better than the first drawn out 20 minutes because that camera man with turrets (he also did Bourne Ultimatum) did this movie and I get sea sick during his movies
Its a good movie but it made my friend a bit dizzy from the movement of the camera.
JUst amazing i cant wait till they make a sequel This should be up for a Oscar
the movie was quite boring until half way. There wasn't much character development for us to care about the misfortune that the protagonist goes through which the story revolves around. Also not much interest was aroused in caring for the aliens and their ill treatment. However the CGI was top notch and the Alien design socially, culturally, physically and ability wise was excellent.
Original, captivating, thrilling as they come yet terribly tragic. Neil Blomkamp has brought us something not only to the sci-fi genre but film in general, the words "ground breaking" sometimes get thrown around far too often but I can't help but consider this piece of work a worthy admission into that category. Easily for me the best film I've seen all year.
Finally a THOUGHTFUL science fiction movie. Action and effects were used in service to a story - this is how it's done folks.
Well done high brow sci fi. Excellent effects and horrific elements. Top notch. Best Sci Fi in years!
Really good movie, very engaging and thought provoking.
The movie was awesome. Had a good time!
This movie was just amazing. It was not at all what I expected it to be. Very moving and emotional for a sci-fi flick. I highly recommend seeing this movie!
Feel good movie of the year!
i thought the film was ok, very graphic though, but a very interesting film, i like the concept of the film
An excellent, thought provoking, entertaining movie! You stay to the end to find out what happens. This movie makes you think about what has historically happened in the past (apartheid and even though this relates to aliens we repeat the same actions). I cannot wait until the sequel.
Can't wait for District 10 or a video game
District 9 was a movie that while it was science fiction-based, involved a lot more than just aliens. It showed that no matter what species it is, we all tend to act in a similar way. While there is violence and politics, at the end of the day, there is still compassion and love. I really felt for the characters in the story, good and bad. While there are a few moments that were somewhat gross, it was a movie that I enjoyed.
Spectacular Sci-Fi action adventure! Paralleling an alternative timeline, humans have contained "Prawns" (aliens) into slum like conditions, reminiscient of the Jewish ghettos during WWII and subsequent concentration camps. It brought tears to my eyes to witness such suffering of the aliens at the hands of the greedy and corrupt humans.
Wonderfully exciting!
special effects were great better then Transformer 2
very cool story but im not fan of documentary style movies
a way to kill time
