EXCELLENT! This movie is like sushi. People hate it or people love it. It shows a weird way to see deep things in life in a funny way. A different movie for different senses of humor!
long after the movie is over you start to get most of the plot
Very slow to get to the point. The only really enjoyable performance was Sandra Oh playing sexie.
the worst movie i ever watched.
Sideways made me laugh more than any movie that I can recall.
Waste of time and money - find something on TV or read a book and you will be rewarded
Very slow movie we were waiting for the excitment to happen but it never happened. This is one rare movies I walk out of and felt that we wasted my money.
I can see how this movie would be good if it were compared to other bland movies at an indi film fest...unfortunately I regretted paying my 10 bucks plus popcorn to see this movie...it was slow and the "jokes" were pathetic...
SIDEWAYS IS EXCELLENT FILM MAKING!!! ALEXANDER PAYNE IS AN AMAZING DIRECTOR!!! PAUL GIAMATTI IS BRILLIANT AS USUAL!!! SIDEWAYS A MUST-SEE O F 2005!!!
the raddest movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The characterization is excellent. You are taken inside their heads.
Whine movie.
A real movie for a change.
This film should win best picture. Best movie I have seen in a long time. Laughs and drama that was well worth it.
Awesome. A movie about life as it sometimes is.
A waste of an evening. Yawn. Definitely NOT Oscar worthy.
This movie was pretty lousy. I wanted my money back. Humor was very bland, not much story to the movie. Fell asleep!!! It`s extremely overated!

garbage.
Superb but only after a start so slow & awkward I was wondering what was up! Great little film - deserves all the kudos.
Very good movie. Good script. Good acting. Not mainstream but definitely one for those who value a slightly twisted comedy.
How could this be nominated for an Oscar???The theater was full of wine snobs having a laugh at losers worse off than them. It was a bad commercal for a wine tasting tour
I thought the movie was a brilliant mix of the things that make us laugh and the things that make us cry. Rich with metaphor yet never too serious about itself, this film runs the gamut and shows what I thought was a very interesting and accurate snapshot of "the human condition."
I would have given it less than one star but that was as low as the rating system went. What reprehensible people!
So answer me this.... Virginia Madsen is apparently nominated for an Academy Award.. was she even in this movie? I will go so far as to say that she did a decent job but... the four minues she was on screen is that worth an Academy Award?
Not good not bad. The movie was starched out should have bean 45 Min it just dragged on. How much wine tasting do they have to show?
Absorbing, funny, immoral, entertaining. And pinot noir is not ALL that great...
Read the book instead... it`s much more enjoyable
Not bad. It will probably make a better rental to watch in the comfort of your own home. The audience with whom I watched it strained to find humor in it early, laughing at things that weren`t really funny, and were either so bored or so puzzled by the middle of the film, lost some of the funnier moments. I think I lauged out loud once, which out of 126 minutes, is pretty low on the laugh per minute ratio. Wait for it on DVD and use your 9 bucks to see something better suited to a big screen and overpriced popcorn.
Okay movie. Coarser than it needed to be to support the story line.
a great road picture that not only transverses physical points but emotional and emphatic points as well. great character developement of all four main characters. overall, a fine drama with great comedic points. fine performances by all.
I loved it. Full of pathos, humor, and always on an edge between horror and hilarity. Paul Giamati is wonderful because he`s not just a schlub, has a good person who is really trying to make himself whole. Virginia Madsen is fantastic as a whole person who also is trying to make things understandable. I liked it much better than `About Schmidt`.
Sorry, but I did not find this flick especially endearing. Although I do like Thomas Hayden-Church, I didn`t buy him as a lothario in this movie. The chemistry between Miles and Maya was non-existant, and the whole scene where they are stuck together while Jack and Stephanie are off in the bedroom getting it on was awkward and painful to watch.
A fun movie for those of us over the age of 40. Worth the price of admission.
dull and superficial. the kind of pretentiousness that we used to revel in in college. and with a fatal flaw (now it`s my chance to be pretentious): with his fanaticism for the pinot noir grape (with all the symbolism it represents in the movie) -- the one wine he is saving for the "big event" in his life is a Cheval Blanc, which is a St. Emilion, which has no Pinot Noir in it (but some Merlot -- the grape he is aghast at). If you are going to make a statement about wines, get your facts straight. Or is this just irony? (Fat chance).
Another middle-age, lost soul, self-centered angst flick that takes advantage of the art of winemaking as it`s vehicle to nowhere.
A classic tale of the schlemiel and the schlamazel, both losers.
I loved it: it offered wonderful insight into the male mind (I`m female); i was rather sympathetic.
A great movie, with great acting and a believable story line. After seeing the film, I went out and bought the book although I wonder if it will measure up to the movie.
a briliant movie that has an euperion ending with references to western culture both in euripe and america.
Best of its kind in years.
One of the best movies of the year. Hysterically funny (you will laugh out loud) but also very touching & poignant. Paul Giamatti is at the top of his game. Thomas Haden Church is a scream. Virginia Madsen (so gorgeous) gives one of the finest female performances of 2004. See it!!
a lousy film about two complete losers
Two current films, Closer and Sideways, have similiar themes concerning relationships and, having seen both, Sideways must be considered by far the best of them. The characters in Sideways can be identified with easily whereas in Closer I found the people to be obnoxious, pseudo-sophisticated and morally unattractive. In Sideways, the characters are much more believable and identifiable to the "Common Joe".
One of the best "buddy" movies I`ve seen. Funny and well acted. A must see for all wine drinkers ! Great dialogue.
One of the best films I`ve seen in years----excellent character film. The acting was astounding!
Great backdrop, very poetic the allusions to grapes and wines and their characteristics. So many movies are forgetable in varying degrees. This one is memorable. I like the fact that it didn`t use the run-of-the-mill blockbuster actors/actresses, although the actors were top-notch. More films should be made like this. Absolutely loved it, and it was recommended by people who absolutely loved it, too.
what a peice of ace
the reason I went to see "Sideways" is because I heard and interview with Mr. Pickett in which he mentioned that "90% of single women are dating 10% of the single men"
Good cast, good script, good movie.
