I don`t think anyone is missing anything by not reading the book. Regardless of all the "subtle humour" and "politcal references", a movie should stand alone and be clear, honest and interesting. This movie was none of the 3. One of the worst movies I`ve ever seen. Random crap that didn`t work and didn`t make anyone in my theatre laugh.

I think this movie is a must see for all who are interested in seeing what the worst movie ever made is. I could have easily walked out in the middle but i fell asleep.
I wish I had read the books first. Then perhaps I would have had a better basis for understanding the movie. I didn`t care for it. Some funny lines are evident but for the most part I found it stupid. The special effects in some parts are excellent. I would advise reading the books first if you want to have a clue what the movie is about.

Hated this movie. I found the humor childish and would have walked out halfway through it. The only redeemly quality was the last quarter of the movie. Wait for the video!!!!
