Scotiabank Theatre Ottawa
Before the 16-screen theatre opened in May 1999, hundreds of people camped out in the parking lot, waiting to purchase a ticket for Star Wars: Episode 1. Fitting for the anticipation at the time, the tagline that the Silvercity used for its opening week was “Go Big or Go Home.” A decade later, it seems as if moviegoers are still choosing the former. Ottawa’s busiest theatre continues to be a major component of entertainment in the city’s ease end . In December 2006, a 64 by 39 foot IMAX screen was installed, the first of its kind in Northeastern Ontario. The Silvercity is also one of a select few multiplexes in Canada to host the Great Digital Film Festival, where audiences can relive their favourite films—the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Back to the Future, Dirty Dancing and more—on the big screen for a discounted price.
