2009 Toronto International Film Festival

The 34th Toronto International Film Festival promises to be the biggest one yet, with over 500 actors, directors, producers and industry insiders from 64 countries descending on the city to show their contribution to the 335 films that will screen from September 10 to 19th. Tribute will be at the Intercontinental to get exclusive interviews with the stars. Other hotspots that attract celebrities include Bistro 999, Windsor Arms/Courtyard Café, Roots on Bloor West, Sotto Sotto, Four Seasons/Avenue Bar, Vaticano Trattoria and Starbucks on Yorkville.

Celebrity watchers will be in their glory, with A-listers such as Clive Owen, Chris Rock, Colin Farrell, Colin Firth, Danny Glover, David Duchovny, Demi Moore, Drew Barrymore, Edward Norton, Ellen Page, Ewan McGregor, George Clooney, Julianne Moore, Keanu Reeves, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Kevin Spacey, Liam Neeson, Lisa Kudrow, Marcia Gay Harden, Mariah Carey, Matt Damon, Michael Cera, Michael Douglas, Megan Fox, Naomi Watts, Natalie Portman, Neil Diamond, Nicolas Cage, Oprah Winfrey, Paul Bettany, Penelope Cruz, Ricky Gervais, Robin Wright Penn, Sissy Spacek, Tilda Swinton and TIFF regular Viggo Mortensen on hand to promote their films and party. Included this year is a free, outdoor Neil Young concert. Emily Blunt as Queen VictoriaThe final gala screening at Roy Thomson Hall is The Young Victoria, about Queen Victoria’s romance with Prince Albert, at 8 p.m. tonight. Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of Prince Andrew, co-produced the movie and will be attending the closing night screening. Helmed by acclaimed Quebecois director Jean-Marc Vallée, the film stars an impressive array of British talent including Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) in the title role, as well as  Paul Bettany, Miranda Richardson, Jim Broadbent and Rupert Friend. The Young Victoria opens in Canadian theaters on November 13th.

eclectic methodTIFF’s free closing-night party in Yonge-Dundas Square features the infectious improvised audiovisual mashups of Eclectic Method.
