The Toronto International Film Festival usually keeps a tight lid on what movies and stars are coming to town, but the exciting news is leaking fast.
The Toronto Star has reported that two films will hit the festival scene this September: The King’s Speech and Miral. In other words, Colin Firth (A Single Man) and Frieda Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) will most definitely be hitting the streets of Toronto this year in support their films.
In The King’s Speech, Colin Firth, a film festival staple, stars as King George VI (the current Queen Elizabeth’s father), which chronicles his life and his effort to overcome his nervous stammer with the assistance of speech therapist Lionel Logue. The film is set to have its gala opening at Roy Thompson Hall on opening weekend, also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Guy Pearce, Geoffrey Rush and Timothy Spall.
Award-winning director Director Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) is also bringing his film Miral starring Frieda Pinto as the title character. It’s a dramatic film about Hind Husseini's effort to establish an orphanage in Jerusalem after the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel. Willem Defoe and Vanessa Redgrave also star.
