The winning features and short films were announced for the 15th annual TIFF Kids International Film Festival yesterday at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. The TIFF Kids Audience Choice Award went to feature film Cool Kids Don't Cry, a film from the Netherlands about a courageous young girl named Akkie, and to the Canadian short film Joanna Makes a Friend. The Golden Sprocket Award went to Germany'sĀ feature film Famous Five, based on the Enid Blyton novels, Nicostrados, the Pelican, about a young boy and his pelican best friend, and short film The Little Team, which details a young group of children teaching adults a lesson. And last, but not least, The Jump Cuts Young Filmmakers Showcase prizes were awarded to A History of Residential Schools in Canada, which gives a pretty good description in the title; Virus, about a young boy trying to solve a mystery; and Black Bird, about an 11-year-old color-blind artist. Congratulations to all the winners!
