Amy Adams stars in one of the most anticipated films at this year's festival, The Master, alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The film, which was written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, is a tale of a wandering WWII veteran who befriends the charismatic founder of a new religion. When asked about her most surreal moment from the film Adams says, "One of the most surreal moments? Filming a scene in which Phoenix’s character suddenly sees all the women at a party naked. That was one of the weirdest nights of my life because I was right at [waist] level,” she says. "The reason that it was so surreal for me is that typically when we see women naked in our society, aside from in life, they’re acting like they know they’re naked. But here the idea is that we’re all acting like we have clothes on. And so to see women of all ages and body types jumping around and dancing and very unselfconsciously presenting themselves, that was so surreal because you just don’t see that. So that was part of it. It was just ‘We’re naked,’ but everyone’s acting like they have clothes on. It was very bizarre.” The Master enjoyed its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. ~Shelby Bronstine

What do you think naturists (nudists) feel like? They totally disregard their nude state and enjoy the free feeling. They can separate nudity from sex, which is not as difficult as some think, having been a naturist most of my life. Guess we are more civilized.
More civilised? Neither more or less civilised. That's a bit self-indulgent. Interesting movie, great performances.
