Roadside Pictures has acquired U.S distribution rights to director Fred Schepisi's adult romance Words and Pictures. The deal was concluded six days after its world premiere at TIFF. Starring Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche, the film follows a flamboyant English teacher (Owen) and a new art teacher (Binoche) as they initiate a school-wide debate on whether literature or painting is more successful in conveying meaning as they explore their romantic intentions towards each other. Clive Owen, who also stars in this year's TIFF Gala Presentation Blood Ties, says portraying a drunk was harder than it seems. “That was one of the scariest things about the movie for me,” Owen said in a recent interview at TIFF. "It’s very difficult to make it believable. You can very easily get into the corny cliche.” Speaking about Owen's and Bichoche's working relationship, director Fred Schepisi revealed “they had a similar sense of humor, a similar attitude to life ... and everything. And you can see it. They just liked working together.” The comedy-romance-drama was scripted by Gerald DiPego and produced by Latitude Productions’ Curtis Burch in association with Dallas-based Lascaux Films.
