In the official trailer for Allied, we see Max (Brad Pitt) and Marianne (Marion Cotillard) attend a glamorous party where swastika flags are proudly hung from banisters. Max and Marianne steal glances at one another and as the ticking of a clock grows increasingly louder, we sense the building of anticipation. Suddenly, both Max and Marianne pull out guns and begin shooting at party attendees.

Following the action, it becomes clear that Max and Marianne are working together but also cultivating a romantic relationship. We see them kiss on a rooftop, dance, make love in a car and wed. But the tone shifts when Max is told by authorities that Marianne is suspected of being a German spy. The man who reveals this adds, "If she is, you will execute her with your own hands. And if you do not comply, you'll be hanged." We see Max struggle with his love for Marianne and the brewing possibility that he may not know the woman he calls his wife at all.
