In the official trailer for The Big Sick, we see a couple spending an evening together. But for the man, Kumail (Kumail Nanjiani), his new girlfriend, Emily (Zoe Kazan) presents a bit of a challenge for his family. As an Indian man, he is expected to marry a girl of the same culture, which is exactly what his family tries to make him do. After seeing that Kumail is submitting to his parent’s wishes, Emily decides that this relationship was a mistake and the two go their separate ways. But when she ends up in a coma, Kumail is drawn back to her and must now deal with her disapproving parents as he tries to show them that love knows no bounds.
The Big Sick opens in theatres July 14, 2017.
