In the official trailer for A Tale of Love and Darkness, a couple and their son are lying underneath a tree when they hear the sound of an explosion. The family flees their country, but the mother does not seem happy about it. In order to distract themselves from their hard reality, the mother tells her son to make up a story. With dramatic music and shots of war, they dream up fantasies about cavaliers and trekking through the desert. The mother tells her son that no matter what he experiences, innocence will never abandon him, and then the mother is seen walking into a field of what appears to be bats.
