The official teaser trailer for Patriots Day opens in the early morning light. Sgt. Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) suits up in his Boston Police gear and kisses his wife Carol (Michelle Monaghan) goodbye as they exchange "I love yous." The date April 15, 2013 appears on screen and the city of Boston prepares for the marathon that's about to unfold.
As the trailer continues, crowds of people line the streets as runners begin their race. Excited cheers can be heard and American flags blow in the breeze. But the sound mutes as the camera shakes and the aftermath of what we now painfully recall as the Boston Marathon bombings unravels. The trailer features appearances by John Goodman, Kevin Bacon and J.K. Simmons, and ends as the following words are shown: "Some events test our courage, some people inspire our strength and some moments define our spirit."
