In the premiere trailer for the romantic comedy The Bounce Back, bestselling author Matthew Taylor (Shemar Moore) is making the rounds on the Hollywood talk show circuit to promote his new book The Bounce Back. His agent, Terry Twist (Bill Bellamy), implores him to "nail" his appearances, and warns him that some of the hosts may question the innate paradox of his profession: he's a relationship expert who isn't in a relationship.

After sitting through show after show hearing praise upon praise for his new book, Matthew's romantic history is finally brought to light at a seminar by a beautiful therapist named Kristin (Nadine Velazquez), who basically calls him a scam artist. Matthew, a single father, thinks he'll never have to see the acerbic woman again. Unfortunately, the two are thrust together again as the media becomes fascinated with the author and therapist's contrary dynamic. Now they must learn to work alongside each other in spite of their differences, as well as their budding mutual attraction.
