In the official trailer for The Space Between Us we meet Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield), a boy born in outer space who can only survive on Mars' atmosphere. The trailer shows Elliot's mother dying in childbirth as a team of scientists determine that baby Gardner must grow up on Mars.
Fast forward 16 years and Gardner is seen driving what appears to be a martian ATV while wearing a spacesuit. Gardner has fallen in love with a girl he speaks to online named Tulsa (Britt Robertson). A team of scientists take Gardner to Earth to undergo tests in a hospital to see if he can adjust to life on Earth. Gardner escapes in an effort to find the only person he knows on Earth — Tulsa.
